The immediate benefits of hands-on therapy became known to me when as a pre-teen I massaged the neck tension of an older friend. He said "keep it up!" That was all the encouragement I needed. I had discovered my passion and it blossomed into a lifetime career.
The term "whole body wellness" aptly describes the focus of my work in creating an environment where your body can do what God intended for it to do - HEAL! My focus is wellness for body, mind and spirit.
My work in therapeutic massage began at a rehabilitation teaching hospital in Northern California in the late 70's. Our focus then (and my focus now) was to help people return to whole body wellness....whether they were addicted to unhealthy food habits, tobacco, drugs, or alcohol, or were in severe pain.
Hungry for the knowledge of how our wonderfully made bodies work, I continued my education and eventually sat for my Physical Therapy Assistant boards in California, later becoming the inpatient therapist of that Rehab Hospital. Medical massage became my secondary work to rehabilitation through therapeutic exercise.
As important as that work was and is, my passion and heart was with manual (hands-on) therapy. There was my 'gifting,' there my 'calling,' if you will. I yearned for a state license where I could practice therapeutic massage which at that time California did not have.
So it was in the early 90's when I made a new home in Hawaii where my practice really blossomed. While living and working in Hawaii I became a state licensed massage therapist and affiliated with the AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) whose focus is education of it's members, and the communities they service. I had many opportunities to 'pay it forward,' volunteering for athletic events like the Honolulu Marathon, Hawaiian Youth project, Relay for Life, and military support. I opened a private office and my practice thrived! In addition to this for 2 years I was Principle Therapist at a Shiatsu Clinic on the windward side of Oahu.
Since the time in the late 70's til now - it has been my privilege to care for thousands of patrons (clients/patients). Eventually family needs brought be back to California where I currently have an active practice with two offices. I have logged nearly 2,000 hours of continuing education, yet there is still SO MUCH I want to learn and experience. Currently in addition to my practice, I am completing my Bachelor's degree in Alternative Medicine.
Simply said I love what I do, and my clients LOVE WHAT I DO TOO!
